Final Reveal - The Ombre Bedroom

Bedroom with blue and green calming ombre wall

Today, I’m sharing the final reveal of the second bedroom in the North Wales coastal home. In case you missed my previous blog post about the plans for the upstairs of this house, you can read it here. As I’ve said before, this house was built in the 1950s and doesn’t have any period features to bring it to life so it needed an injection of personality. I don’t have any ‘before’ pictures of the space but it hadn’t been decorated for at least 20 years and the furniture was even older, with built-in wardrobes that covered the whole of the bed wall. The brief was to create a calming space with a relaxing, coastal feel.

The Interior Design Scheme

We decided on Dulux’s Tranquil Dawn for the walls - it’s a soft green that looks greyer in certain lights. It was Dulux’s colour of the year a couple of years ago and they provided four colour palettes to create different moods - pink and blue accents from the Care palette tie in with the colour scheme for the master bedroom and the rest of the house. We combined natural materials such as bamboo and oak with tactile textures to create a soft, calming feel.

We decided on Dulux’s Denim Drift (one of the colours from the Care palette) for the bottom half of the bed wall, creating an ombre effect for softness.

And here it is now! We added lots of texture in the soft furnishings for a cosy feel. The texture of the duvet cover is reminiscent of waves - perfect for the coastal setting of this house.

Wood ladder with bamboo planter and plants

The pops of colour in the macrame add interest while the foliage and natural material of the ‘70s bamboo planter complement the overall scheme.

The black accents ground the space and the gold accessories give it a lift.

Ooooh actually, I do have one ‘before’ picture of this little corner which used to house a sink.

The little dressing table from La Redoute fits the space perfectly and the warm wood tones contrast with the wall colour. The stool was a £20 bargain from The Range! We accessorised with old framed photos of Colwyn Bay which add character.

The painting behind the bed was by my mum and pulls the rest of the colours in the bedroom together, adding to the coastal feel.

So what do you think? I hope you like it - let me know in the comments!
